E-scooter crash injures two Quebec teens; helmet saves one, collisions doubled

lapresse.ca (French)

Two Quebec teenagers were seriously injured when the electric scooter they shared collided with a delivery truck last month; one says his motorcycle helmet saved his life. Noah, 14, and Olivier, 13, rode one scooter illegally against traffic on a bike path at about 35-40 km/h; the truck turned right without signalling, they said. Noah wore a helmet and shielded Olivier; both suffered fractures and concussions, and Noah had a fingertip amputated. Provincial data show electric-scooter collisions with vehicles more than doubled, from 71 in 2024 to 156 in 2025. Parents call such scooters too accessible to youths and urge training.
