Drake Passage attracts adventurers with its extreme ocean crossing to Antarctica

The Drake Passage, a 600-mile stretch of open sea, is known for its extreme conditions and is a key route to Antarctica. It connects South America to the Antarctic Peninsula and is famous for its turbulent waters, often referred to as the "Drake Shake." This passage, named after explorer Sir Francis Drake, has become a popular adventure for tourists. Each year, about 75,000 people brave the crossing, which can take up to 48 hours, to experience the challenges of the journey. The Drake Passage features some of the world's highest average wave heights, reaching four to five meters.
