Douglas Clifton Brown convicted of attempted murder
Douglas Clifton Brown, 56, was found guilty of attempted murder for trying to throw his estranged partner, Camilla Welby, down a 240-foot well during an argument on August 12, 2023. The court heard he assaulted her after changing routes while driving. Welby managed to fight back, wrapping her scarf around Brown's neck. She sustained serious injuries, including a suspected fractured nose. Brown had a history of violence against her and had previously admitted to causing grievous bodily harm. The sentencing hearing has been adjourned until April 2, 2025. Judge Alice Robinson indicated that Brown could face a lengthy prison sentence.
