Donkeys teach 32 teenagers slowness on a 120-km trek through the Alto Appennino National Park

Thirty-two young people trekked 120 kilometers with four rescued donkeys over nine days in an educational initiative organized by Massimo Montanari of Asineria di Reggio Emilia. The trek ran from Pietra di Bismantova to Marinella through the Alto Appennino National Park. Montanari said the donkeys, which carry only light camping gear, teach participants to slow down and reflect on obstacles. The trip costs 790 euros all-inclusive and aims to build social resilience. All donkeys were saved from slaughter; Montanari said walking keeps them healthier than staying in pens, despite criticism from animal advocates.
