DMK’s Push for Tamil in Madras High Court: Stalin’s Direct Appeal to Modi

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay has introduced a resolution in the Legislative Assembly today to make Tamil the language of proceedings in the Madras High Court, though the DMK government has previously moved similar resolutions on three occasions. Former Law Minister Raghupathi detailed the DMK's past efforts, including a 2006 resolution under former Chief Minister Karunanidhi that was sent to the President and Supreme Court, but was stalled due to untranslated legal terms. He also cited former CM M.K. Stalin's requests to Chief Justice Ramana, Justice Chandrachud, and Prime Minister Modi. Raghupathi emphasized that Stalin was the first leader to raise the demand for Tamil as the court language, including a direct appeal before Prime Minister Modi at a 2022 Chennai event.
