Dizon requests toll holiday and more lanes in NLEX
Transportation Secretary Vivencio "Vince" Dizon has urged NLEX Corporation to add more lanes and suspend toll fees on the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) after an accident at the Marilao Interchange Bridge caused significant traffic delays. Dizon believes it is fair to waive toll charges for drivers traveling north while repairs, expected to take about two weeks, are being made. Dizon highlighted that charging full tolls during this time is unfair to motorists stuck in traffic for long periods over short distances. He described the toll suspension as a small consolation for the troubles faced by drivers and passengers. NLEX Corporation responded by opening an additional lane, allowing three lanes for better traffic flow. They also announced temporary toll relief for the northbound lanes from Balintawak to Meycauayan, starting on March 24 and lasting until all lanes of the bridge are reopened. The damage to the Marilao Bridge was caused by a tanker truck that exceeded height restrictions, leading to the driver's wife being thrown from the vehicle. Fortunately, she did not suffer serious injuries. NLEX Corporation informed the public that some lanes will be closed from March 24 to March 28 for essential repairs. They acknowledged that slow traffic is expected during this period and encouraged drivers to find alternative routes. In light of the incident, NLEX Corporation is considering recovering repair costs from the truck owners. They have already filed charges against the drivers involved in the accident for causing damage through reckless behavior.
