Disney settles minimum wage lawsuit for $233 million in California
Disney has agreed to pay $233 million to settle a class action lawsuit involving over 50,000 Disneyland workers. The lawsuit claimed Disney did not comply with a 2018 Anaheim law requiring a minimum wage of $15 an hour for certain businesses. The legal battle began after Disney sought to end tax subsidies to avoid the wage increase. A state appeals court later ruled that Disney's agreements with Anaheim constituted subsidies, reversing an earlier decision in favor of the company. Disney stated that all Disneyland employees currently earn at least $19.90 per hour, with 95% earning more. This settlement follows a previous $43.25 million agreement to resolve pay discrimination claims from female employees.
