Disney+ orders pilot for new "Holes" TV series reimagining story with female lead

Disney+ has ordered a pilot for a new TV series based on the book "Holes" by Louis Sachar. This series will reimagine the story, focusing on a teenage girl at a detention camp, unlike the original book's male protagonist, Stanley Yelnats. Alina Mankin will write and executive produce the series, with Liz Phang as showrunner. The pilot is produced by Walden Media, which also made the 2003 film adaptation, and features several executive producers, including Drew Goddard. The original "Holes" book, published in 1998, won multiple awards and has sold millions of copies. The 2003 film starred Shia LaBeouf and was a box office success.
