Goncourt Prize-winning French novelist and screenwriter Didier Decoin died Wednesday at 81 in Villejuif, the Académie Goncourt announced. Decoin, former president of the Académie Goncourt, won in 1977 for 'John l'Enfer' and was known for TV adaptations of historical novels. He was the son of filmmaker Henri Decoin and regarded the prize as a second birth. Born in 1945 in Boulogne-Billancourt, he recounted his father's ambivalent legacy in the 2006 memoir 'Henri ou Henry,' and was remembered as holding language and literature in the highest regard.
