Denmark grants people copyright to their digital likeness
Denmark will amend its copyright law to grant individuals ownership of their digital likeness, including their body, voice, and facial features, to combat deepfakes. This aims to protect people from unauthorized use of their digital identities. The proposed law, supported by a broad cross-party agreement, will allow individuals to demand the removal of deepfakes created without consent. Violations could result in compensation, while parodies and satire will remain permitted. The Danish government hopes this initiative, believed to be the first of its kind in Europe, will encourage other nations to follow suit. The government is prepared to impose fines on platforms that fail to comply.
