Denmark conscripts women into military service
Denmark has implemented mandatory military conscription for women, joining men in facing 11 months of service due to a new law. This change comes amid rising European tensions and warnings of potential Russian aggression. The conscription, effective July 1, will use a lottery system for women turning 18. This follows NATO's warning of a possible Russian attack within the next five years and Denmark's commitment to increase defense spending. This move aligns with Denmark's broader efforts to bolster its military, including extending conscription duration and increasing recruit numbers, while also supporting Ukraine's EU membership bid.
