Delmore Brothers Tribute Album Features Ricky Skaggs, Doyle Lawson & More
A tribute album to the pioneering country duo The Delmore Brothers, titled *A Century of Strings, Stories & Songs*, was released on Thursday, Oct. 1, featuring artists like Ricky Skaggs and Doyle Lawson. The project was spearheaded by songwriter-producer Jerry Salley and Dr. Keith Ferguson of Athens State University. The Delmore Brothers, Alton and Rabon, were influential in the 1930s and 1940s for their harmonies and innovative chord changes, which blended blues into country music. The album includes contributions from artists such as Marty Raybon, Jimmy Fortune, and The SteelDrivers, covering classic songs like "Brown's Ferry Blues" and "Blues, Stay Away From Me." The duo's legacy includes a No. 1 hit in 1950 and induction into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2001. Their work also influenced the formation of the first country gospel quartet and the development of rockabilly and rock 'n' roll.
