Delhi's education budget increases by 17% for FY26
The BJP government in Delhi has allocated Rs 19,291 crore for education in the financial year 2025-26. This amount represents a 17% increase from the previous year. The government aims to introduce several initiatives to enhance education in the city. One of the key projects is the establishment of CM Shri schools. These new schools will follow the National Education Policy 2020 and the National Curriculum Framework for School Education 2023. The government will also set up 60 new schools with a budget of Rs 100 crore. Additionally, an education hub will be developed in Narela with Rs 500 crore in funding. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta emphasized the importance of digital learning. She announced free laptops for 1,200 Class 10 students and said Rs 7.5 crore has been allocated for this initiative. To promote multilingual skills, 100 new language labs will be created, including courses in various languages, with a budget of Rs 21 crore. A new scheme aimed at fostering an entrepreneurial mindset among students has been introduced. Named 'New Era of Entrepreneurial Ecosystem and Vision', it has a budget of Rs 20 crore. The government plans to set up several startup support centers to assist young entrepreneurs with funding and guidance. Modernizing infrastructure is also a priority. The budget includes funds to establish 175 new computer labs and smart classrooms, totaling Rs 50 crore. This aims to replace outdated systems in many existing schools. Moreover, the government has dedicated Rs 886 crore for training and technical education across various institutions, including those focusing on industrial training. New programs will provide professional guidance to students preparing for competitive exams like JEE and NEET. Lastly, the government will launch 'Rashtraneeti', which involves students learning about governance and active citizenship, and 'Science of Living', which aims to promote holistic education. The establishment of incubation centers to support startups among young people is also planned, with Rs 2.43 crore allocated for this initiative.
