Delhi tops India's counterfeit goods list; Chennai, Bengaluru follow

A new nationwide study reveals 89% of Indian consumers have purchased a counterfeit product at least once, with Delhi topping the list of cities for fake goods, followed by Chennai and Bengaluru. The ASPA-CRISIL State of Counterfeiting in India 2025 report surveyed 1,639 consumers across nine cities and six sectors, including apparel, FMCG, automotive parts, consumer durables, healthcare products, and agro-products, highlighting that counterfeit purchases are a widespread everyday occurrence. The findings indicate that fake goods are not a fringe issue in India but a common reality, with nearly every consumer having encountered them, underscoring the scale of the problem across multiple industries.
