Death toll rises to 14 as winter storms cause flooding and extreme cold in US
The death toll from severe winter storms in the central and eastern United States has increased to at least 14. Kentucky reported 12 fatalities, with many victims drowning in floodwaters. One death occurred in West Virginia and another in Atlanta, Georgia. The National Weather Service warned of extreme cold, with wind chills reaching -51 degrees Celsius in parts of Montana and North Dakota. The cold weather system is expected to affect a wide area, including the central plains and the eastern seaboard. While power has been restored to many homes, over 50,000 customers in West Virginia, Pennsylvania, and Maryland remain without electricity. Authorities have declared a state of emergency in affected areas.
