Deaf dog Betsy adopted after captivating photograph

Betsy, a deaf pit bull, has found a loving home after a tough start in life. She was rescued by a good Samaritan after being tossed from a car and then struck by another vehicle. The Humane Society of Tampa Bay took her in, where she spent 73 days before her fortune changed. At the shelter, Betsy worked as a greeter dog, helping to comfort new arrivals. Initial photos of her didn't show her true spirit. Shelter staff often take quick pictures when animals arrive, which may not reflect their personalities. Regan Blessinger, a staff member, noted that the stress of new surroundings often affects these images. Things changed for Betsy when professional photographer Adam Goldberg visited the shelter. His "Second Shot" program helps showcase shelter animals through professional photography. Goldberg aimed to capture Betsy "in a different light." With treats and encouragement, Betsy's true personality shone through in her new photos. Christian Pesantes and Michelle Robles-Aponte, a couple searching for a new pet, saw Betsy's updated pictures online and fell in love. Despite their busy lives with three cats and a young child, they decided to meet her. After a successful trial period, they found Betsy to be gentle and loving with their family. They decided to adopt her and named her Ghost, inspired by her beautiful, spotted coat. Pesantes expressed his happiness, saying she exceeded his expectations. He praised Goldberg for his role in helping them find Betsy. She is now a beloved member of their family.
