Davao Light warns of possible power outages as Mindanao grid hits red alert

Davao Light and Power Co. warned of possible power interruptions in Davao City after the Mindanao grid was placed under Red Alert on Sept. 3 due to tight supply conditions. The utility cited unavailable generating units and high electricity demand as causes, implementing measures to manage supply while noting outages may still occur. Available capacity was 2,480 MW against peak demand of 2,546 MW. The Red Alert ran from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m., with Yellow Alerts before and after. Forced outages included large coal plants GNPK Units 1 and 2, and TSI Unit 2. Davao Light urged customers to conserve electricity during peak hours.
