Darius Boyd named Queensland State of Origin coach on two-year deal

abc.net.au

Darius Boyd has been named Queensland's new State of Origin coach, signing a two-year deal to replace Billy Slater. The former Maroons player takes over after Slater's departure last month. Boyd, 39, scored 17 tries in 28 Origin appearances for Queensland between 2008 and 2017, ranking second on the state's all-time tryscorers list. He has coached Queensland's under-19 team to consecutive series wins over New South Wales since retiring in 2020. Like Slater, Boyd has no prior NRL head coaching experience, though he served as an assistant under Kevin Walters at the Broncos. Queensland Rugby League chair Brian Canavan praised Boyd's playing achievements and his coaching development since retirement.
