Dan Petrescu's promise to CFR Cluj ends FCSB technical director plan

Ioan Varga, CFR Cluj's owner, said Dan Petrescu will never join FCSB, citing the coach's promise to return only to CFR if he coaches in Romania again. FCSB patron Gigi Becali had agreed with Mihai Stoica two months ago to bring Petrescu in as technical director, not head coach, saying he could give instructions from the stands. Varga's statement ended that plan. Petrescu, 58, has won five Romanian league titles—four with CFR and one with Unirea Urziceni—plus cups. He stepped back from coaching about a year ago to address health problems.
