Cyclone Fengal brings heavy rain to Chittoor district and halts traffic
Heavy rain affected parts of Chittoor district on November 30, 2024, due to Cyclone Fengal. The eastern mandals, including Nindra and Nagari, received significant rainfall, totaling 132 mm by 9 a.m. Traffic on the Nagari-Chennai highway was halted at the Ponpadi-Tiruttani border. The Kusasthali river in Nagari town began to receive inflows, prompting officials to monitor low-lying areas for potential flooding. The rains benefited mango farmers in Chittoor and Annamayya districts by improving soil moisture, which is crucial for flowering in February. The district remains under an orange alert.
