Cybercriminals steal from Colombian merchants using fake Nequi app

semana.com (Spanish)

Cybercriminals are using a fake application that mimics the appearance of the Nequi platform to defraud merchants. This app generates false payment confirmations, deceiving merchants into believing a payment has been made when no transaction occurred. The fraudulent application, named "Nequi DZ Y2," is obtained through a separate APK file, as it is not available in official app stores. It creates payment confirmations that look similar to authentic Nequi receipts. Merchants are advised to verify payment receipts by requesting the customer to click 'done' (a button that doesn't function in the fake app) and immediately checking their account for the funds, as Nequi transactions are instant.
