C.V. Shanmugam Storms Out of Tamil Nadu Assembly Over Speaking Rights

The Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly witnessed chaos when former minister C.V. Shanmugam demanded to speak, creating a tense atmosphere. He sought the floor regarding a resolution to rename the Chennai High Court as the Tamil Nadu High Court. Shanmugam, a former Law Minister, insisted he should be allowed to speak when AIADMK's Thalavai Sundaram rose to address the house. After the Speaker refused his request, he attempted to walk out, but former minister K.P. Anbazhagan intervened and persuaded him to return to his seat. During his eventual speech, Shanmugam welcomed the Chief Minister's resolution, noting that while Madras became Chennai, the High Court retained its old name. He recalled former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa's efforts and requested a formal resolution for the name change, saying today's generation doesn't know the term "Madras."
