Cuba experiences widespread blackout after major power plant failure

Cuba's electrical grid collapsed on Friday after the Antonio Guiteras thermoelectric plant failed, leaving millions without power. This follows a massive blackout the previous day, marking one of the worst outages in recent years. The Cuban government is implementing emergency measures, including suspending classes and shutting down some state services. Officials reported that 1.64 gigawatts of power went offline during peak hours, affecting half of the total demand. Prime Minister Manuel Marrero acknowledged the worsening situation, citing increased demand and maintenance issues with aging plants. He assured citizens that efforts are underway to restore power, with a focus on securing fuel supplies.
