Court urged to demolish illegal road in Nagpur

The Bombay High Court in Nagpur is being asked to order the demolition of an illegal road under the Ghat Road Railway Bridge. The road reportedly narrows the Nag River, increasing flood risks, according to a petition filed by 91-year-old Ramgopal Bachuka and others. The petition claims the road reduced the river's width from 18 meters to six meters, violating regulations. It also links the road to severe flooding in September 2023, which caused significant damage in the area. The court previously formed a committee to address flooding and monitor encroachments along local rivers. While the government has allocated funds for river work, petitioners argue that the road undermines these efforts and request immediate action to remove it.
