Court confiscates 4 million hryvnias from ex-agriculture minister Koval

Ukraine's High Anti-Corruption Court confiscated over 4 million hryvnias from former Agriculture Minister Vitaliy Koval on Wednesday, August 2, due to an apartment registered to a relative. The Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office announced the ruling. The 170-square-meter premium-class apartment in Kyiv was purchased in 2021 for 8.1 million hryvnias by Koval's mother-in-law, a pensioner. The court determined she could not have legally obtained at least part of the funds, rejecting her explanation of a 5.5 million hryvnia loan. The court ruled 53.15% of the property was an unjustified asset, ordering 4.35 million hryvnias be recovered for the state. Koval, appointed minister in September 2024, was dismissed in 2025 with the entire government of Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal.
