Cook County prioritizes domestic violence in prosecution efforts
Cook County's state's attorney, Eileen O'Neill Burke, is prioritizing domestic violence cases after recent murders linked to such incidents. She noted that 15 women with pending cases have been killed in recent months. O'Neill Burke is restructuring her office to enhance focus on domestic violence while maintaining attention on gun violence. Her office is now involved with the Chicago Gun Crimes Center to track illegal firearms. Concerns about the county's electronic monitoring system are also rising, as responsibility shifts to the chief judge's office. O'Neill Burke highlighted that 17 individuals charged with murder are currently on curfew programs.
