Construction to replace Old Ivy Road bridge near Charlottesville starts next week
Construction to replace the Old Ivy Road bridge over the U.S. 250 Bypass near Charlottesville starts next Monday. The 64-year-old bridge is deemed substandard and will be closed intermittently until fall 2026. The $3.9 million project will involve replacing the bridge deck and beams, and raising the structure for better vehicle clearance. During construction, the bridge will only allow eastbound traffic and will be narrowed to 10 feet and 8 inches. Detours will be in place for both tractor-trailers and passenger vehicles. Nighttime weekend closures may occur as needed, with specific routes provided for drivers to navigate around the construction area.
