Congress ends Raijor Dal alliance before Nagaon bypoll over propaganda claims
The Congress party has ended its alliance with Akhil Gogoi's Raijor Dal ahead of the Nagaon Lok Sabha bypoll, citing "malicious propaganda and character assassination" by the regional party's leaders. The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee issued a circular on Thursday, stating the decision was made on party president Gaurav Gogoi's direction. Congress accused Raijor Dal of violating alliance norms by making baseless remarks against partners, with MP Rakibul Hussain alleging Akhil Gogoi echoed Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma's narratives to attack Congress. Tensions escalated after Akhil questioned Congress's support in the bypoll and met Sarma over flood relief. The seat fell vacant after Congress MP Pradyut Bordoloi joined the BJP and won the Dispur assembly seat.
