Competitive eater Tim Janus, 'Eater X,' dies at 49 from cancer

Competitive eater Tim Janus, known as "Eater X," has died at age 49 from complications related to cancer, according to Major League Eating. Janus, a Connecticut native and longtime New York City resident, began competitive eating in 2006 and became the nation's second-ranked competitor behind Joey Chestnut. He held world titles in tiramisu, ramen noodle, and nigiri sushi eating, and won $100,000 on "Who Wants to be a Millionaire." He also appeared on "The Amazing Race" with Chestnut in 2018 and competed on "Cash Cab." Janus is survived by his parents and sister, with a celebration of life planned next month in New York City.
