Comelec prepares for busy election year in 2025 with new voting systems

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) is preparing for a busy 2025, which includes the May midterm elections, the first Bangsamoro parliamentary elections, and the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections. Comelec has awarded a contract for a new automated elections system to South Korean firm Miru Systems, replacing the previous provider, Smartmatic. The new system will feature upgraded counting machines and enhanced voter accessibility measures, including early voting hours and mall voting. For overseas voters, an internet-based voting system will be introduced in 75 countries. Additionally, Comelec will post voter lists with photos at polling places and upload candidate documents online to improve transparency.
