Colossal reports progress on thylacine revival and marsupial protection efforts
Colossal, a de-extinction company, has reported progress on reviving the thylacine, or Tasmanian tiger, which went extinct in 1936. The company is advancing its technology for manipulating marsupial biology, which may allow for quicker milestones compared to its mammoth project. In addition to de-extinction, Colossal is working on protecting existing marsupial predators from invasive cane toads. The team has engineered a genetic change that significantly increases resistance to cane toad toxins in marsupial stem cells. These developments mark a shift in Colossal's focus, expanding from solely reviving extinct species to also enhancing the survival of current species threatened by invasive species.
