Colombian acid attack survivor approved for euthanasia after 26 years of suffering

Maria Consuelo Cordoba, a 58-year-old Colombian woman severely disfigured by an acid attack in 2000, says she wants to die after 26 years of exhausting treatment and hardship. Cordoba, who breathes through tubes and has undergone over 80 operations, struggles to eat, cannot work, and begs on Bogota's streets to afford rent. She says she is physically, emotionally, and financially exhausted. Her husband attacked her after she refused to return to Choco. She met Pope Francis in 2017, who persuaded her against euthanasia, but says no help followed. Colombia's health entity Capital Salud has now approved her for euthanasia.
