Colleen Atwood unveils costume designs for Beetlejuice Beetlejuice with gothic flair
Costume designer Colleen Atwood has created nearly 1,000 costumes for the new film "Beetlejuice Beetlejuice," taking over from the original designer after 36 years. She used luxurious fabrics, including a silk for the iconic striped suit. Atwood's designs reflect the characters' backstories, with an elaborate aging process for costumes. Input from actors influenced some choices, such as Michael Keaton's preference for a matador cape and Catherine O'Hara's reuse of a hat from the original film. The new film features a mix of styles, from Lydia's goth-inspired looks to her daughter Astrid's grunge aesthetic. Atwood collaborated with actors and designers to create unique pieces that connect to the characters' identities.
