Colchester Zoo completes annual animal count highlighting births and losses

Colchester Zoo in Essex has completed its annual stock take, counting all animals including tigers, monkeys, and seals. The 2024 count revealed 152 species, with 29 classified as endangered or critically endangered. The zoo tracks births, deaths, and exchanges with other zoos. Notable births included a Colombian black spider monkey and two amur leopard cubs. The zoo reported the death of Oto, a male white rhino, and An An, a male red panda, during the year. The count data is submitted to relevant associations and published on the zoo's website.
