Close races in Charlotte area elections may trigger recounts
Three close races in the Charlotte area could lead to recounts if candidates request them. Two state Senate races and one N.C. House race have margins within the 1% threshold for recounts, according to a Mecklenburg County official. Democrat Woodson Bradley leads Republican Stacie McGinn by 27 votes in the 42nd district. In Senate District 37, Republican Vickie Sawyer is ahead of Democrat Kate Compton Barr by 116 votes. Republican Tricia Cotham leads in House District 105 by 275 votes. In addition, a statewide race for a Supreme Court seat is also close enough for a recount. Republican Jefferson Griffin leads Democrat Allison Riggs by 10,130 votes, or 0.18%. Election boards are currently counting outstanding ballots, including over 5,000 provisional and 4,000 absentee ballots in Mecklenburg County.
