CLO and Style3D Settle 3D Fashion Software Patent Lawsuit

CLO Virtual Fashion and Style3D's maker, Linctex, settled a 2023 U.S. patent lawsuit, with Linctex admitting the software infringed three CLO patents and that the patents are valid. The deal's financial terms and any required software changes were not disclosed. The settlement resolves claims over digital sewing and pattern-measurement tools in the Eastern District of Texas. Linctex's concessions came through negotiation, not a court verdict, and it remains unclear if the agreement covers current Style3D Studio versions or requires licensing. Prior court rulings had partially rejected Linctex's invalidity arguments and noninfringement claims. CLO also secured a separate Chinese court victory in January, finding Linctex used cracked CLO software. The U.S. case involved patent rights, while the Chinese case addressed software copyright. The settlement leaves open whether it affects currently available Style3D tools or only older versions.
