Achondroplasia significantly increases healthcare utilization and costs for affected individuals in the US. The study found that people with achondroplasia experience more comorbidities and higher rates of inpatient admissions and outpatient visits compared to controls. This leads to substantially higher annual healthcare expenses for both children and adults. A subgroup with achondroplasia and spinal stenosis faced even greater healthcare resource utilization and costs, highlighting a significant unmet medical need for better treatments.
