Clashes in Latakia province result in multiple casualties

bbc.com

Syrian forces loyal to the new government are fighting remnants of the ousted Assad regime in Latakia province. At least 13 soldiers have died in these clashes, which are among the most violent since Assad's fall in December. A curfew has been imposed in the coastal city of Jableh, where "huge military reinforcements" are being sent. Reports indicate that government-aligned forces have killed around 70 former regime fighters and captured more than 25 others. The situation poses a significant security challenge for interim president Ahmed al-Sharaa, who is also dealing with resistance in the south. The new government has pledged to destroy any remaining chemical weapons stockpiles from the Assad era.
