Cincinnati Reds call up top prospect Hector Rodriguez from Triple-A

The Cincinnati Reds promoted top prospect Hector Rodriguez from Triple-A, calling up their number-three rated prospect alongside pitcher Chase Petty in their first major roster move following a disappointing trade deadline. Rodriguez, who hit .274 with 27 home runs and 69 RBI in 104 games this season, is expected to play right field, giving Noelvi Marte a mental break. Petty, recalled for the fifth time, holds a 1-2 record with a 4.50 ERA in 15 major league games this year. The moves follow Monday's trades of Nathaniel Lowe and Caleb Ferguson, signaling the front office's pursuit of the final NL wild card spot despite the Reds sitting in last place in the NL Central. Rodriguez was acquired from the Mets in the 2022 Tyler Naquin trade.
