Chula Vista reopens Harborside Park after renovations and new rules
Chula Vista has reopened Harborside Park after closing it in August 2022 due to illegal activities and homeless encampments. The park has undergone renovations, including new turf, a basketball court, upgraded lighting, and security features, costing about $1 million. The reopening event featured children playing soccer and enjoying a bouncy house. The park now includes a mini-pitch soccer field donated by professional player Paul Arriola and will offer free after-school programs starting Wednesday. The city previously considered housing options for the site but ultimately decided to restore the park. New rules banning homeless encampments have also been approved, which will be enforced regardless of shelter availability.
