Chris Chibnall: BBC funding cuts put Doctor Who on hold

Doctor Who’s future is on hold largely because the BBC cannot afford it, former showrunner Chris Chibnall said, citing funding cuts as the main reason. Chibnall said the BBC’s budget has been eroded over 15 years and squeezed by big Hollywood companies, leaving it unable to fully fund any drama. The show was put out to competitive tender.
