Chitra Sarwara urges free-hold rights for Ambala Cantt residents

Opposition leader Chitra Sarwara met urban local bodies minister Vipul Goel on Wednesday to advocate for converting the Ambala Cantt Excise Area into free-hold land, seeking clear ownership rights for thousands of resident families. Sarwara requested full grant and clear ownership rights for current landowners and homeowners who have lived in the area for decades, stressing the process should not impose a heavy financial burden on citizens. She noted families have paid taxes and fees regularly but still lack full property rights. Sarwara criticized the previous BJP government, saying former minister Anil Vij had the opportunity between 2019 and 2024 to resolve the issue but failed to prioritize granting freehold rights.
