Chinese researchers develop glowing plants using phosphorescent particles

tamil.indianexpress.com (Tamil)

Chinese researchers have created plants that glow in the dark by injecting phosphorescent particles into their leaves, making them emit light for up to two hours. This non-genetically modified technology uses particles similar to those in glow-in-the-dark toys, which absorb light during the day and release it at night. The succulent Echeveria "Mebina" plant was used due to its dense tissue, allowing for even particle distribution. The process takes about ten minutes and costs approximately $1.40. While still in early stages, this innovation could offer a novel lighting solution for homes and potentially for areas without electricity in the future.
