Chinese entrepreneur turns back-scratching into a 4,200-rupee-an-hour business

A Chinese entrepreneur has launched a professional itch-scratching service in Shenzhen, charging 300 yuan (about Rs 4,200) per hour, with two outlets generating roughly 100,000 yuan in monthly gross revenue. Zhang Xiaoqiao, 32, founded the brand Suma, where trained staff use specially designed pointed nails to gently scratch customers lying on beds, focusing on itchy areas. The service, marketed for relaxation and stress relief, has reached break-even and attracts about 70% male clientele. The idea stemmed from a social-media video and Zhang's childhood memories of his father scratching his back. After several failed ventures, he now plans to expand Suma to 100 outlets nationwide, aiming to establish itch-scratching as a recognized profession.
