Chinese Electric Cars Filmed Norwegian Military Exercise and Access Codes
Chinese electric cars used during a military exercise in Oslo recorded footage of sensitive military sites, including access codes and soldiers' faces, according to Norwegian media reports. The discovery has prompted an investigation and a change of all affected access codes. The vehicles, rented from Hertz Norway, a subsidiary of Chinese-owned Volvo Cars, were used during the "Ovelse Hovedstad" exercise in mid-September involving over 5,000 troops. After the exercise, military experts found stored videos in at least two Deepal-brand cars showing restricted locations and entry codes, with footage appearing selectively targeted rather than random. Authorities have not determined whether the data was transmitted to servers in China or remained locally stored. The incident follows previous concerns about Chinese electric vehicles, including a Yutong bus transmitting data to China and British restrictions on Chinese cars at military bases.
