Chinese cities launch subsidies to enhance access to AI computing power
Chinese cities are launching subsidy programs to help companies and researchers afford computing power needed for artificial intelligence. These vouchers aim to reduce rental costs for computing resources, which are essential for AI development. Shenzhen recently introduced a 500 million yuan (US$68.49 million) annual voucher program. It offers subsidies of up to 50% for businesses and institutions renting computing power, with start-ups receiving up to 60%. This initiative comes as computing power becomes increasingly important in the global tech race. Premier Li Qiang highlighted the need for improved computing infrastructure during a visit to Zhejiang province, emphasizing its role in economic growth.
