China will lead nuclear energy, surpassing the United States
China is set to surpass the United States in nuclear energy production after approving the construction of ten new nuclear reactors. This decision could shift the global energy landscape. The new reactors, costing approximately $27 billion, will be added to the 30 already under construction. This marks the fourth consecutive year of such approvals, potentially making China the leading nuclear energy producer by the end of the decade. This expansion is part of China's plan to reach 65 GW of nuclear capacity by the end of 2025 and 200 GW by 2040. The government is supporting the projects with low-interest loans, aiming to keep costs down compared to Western projects.
