China Sets 2030 Goal for Green Power Supply Structure

China's top economic planner and energy regulator released the "15th Five-Year Plan" for building a new power system, setting a strategic goal to initially establish it by 2030. The plan targets a green and low-carbon power supply structure with non-fossil energy accounting for 50% of generation. The plan addresses surging electricity demand, projecting an annual increase of about 600 billion kilowatt-hours during the period, driven by computing power, electric vehicles, and residential use. It emphasizes ensuring supply security while advancing low-carbon transition, including supporting over 110 million EVs and integrating more than 2.8 billion kilowatts of new energy. Additional measures focus on system solutions for new energy consumption, such as classified development and utilization rate controls. The plan also promotes synergy between power and computing sectors, aiming for computing power electricity consumption to reach 800 billion kilowatt-hours by 2030, alongside coordination with transportation and other industries.
