China retaliates with tariffs on Canadian agricultural products
China has announced new tariffs on Canadian agricultural products in response to Canada's tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles, steel, and aluminum. The tariffs include a 100% duty on rapeseed oil and a 25% duty on aquatic products and pork. These tariffs will take effect on March 20, escalating trade tensions between Canada and China. Canada is currently facing tariff threats from both the U.S. and China, complicating its trade relationships with the world's two largest economies. China's commerce ministry criticized Canada's actions as protectionist and in violation of World Trade Organization rules. Despite the tensions, experts suggest there may still be opportunities for negotiation between the two countries.
