China hacked global telecoms via private firms

China used three private companies in a global hacking operation targeting telecommunications firms, including U.S. companies, to access millions of communications. The operation, dubbed Salt Typhoon, allegedly snooped on campaigns of Kamala Harris and Donald Trump, and compromised over 200 companies in 80 countries since 2021. The U.S. and twelve allied governments released a technical report detailing the campaign, which also targeted government and military networks worldwide.
